THE GOSPEL OF MARK CHAPTER 1 

I. THE WORK OF JOHN, THE BAPTIST: VS 1-8 

A. This was the reason for his preaching. vs 1-3 (The preaching of John fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament.) Mal. 3:1, Isa. 40:3  B. This was the urgency of his preaching. v 4 (John preached the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.)  C. This was the fame of his preaching. v 5 (The fame of John became wide spread.)  D. This was the way John dressed to preach. v 6 (John was clothed with a camel's skin girdled about his loins.)  E. This was the purpose of his preaching. vs 7-8 (John was preparing the way for the coming of Christ.) II. THE BAPTISM OF JESUS: VS 9-11  A. This was the act of His baptism. v 9 (Jesus was baptized by John in the river of Jordan.)  B. This was the glory of His baptism. v 10 (The heavens were opened for His glorification.)  C. This was blessing of His baptism. v 11 (Jesus was Divinely glorified.) III. THE TEMPTATIONS OF JESUS: VS 12-13  A. This was the place of His temptation. v 12 (Jesus was tempted in the wilderness.)  B. This was the length of His temptation. v 13 (Jesus was in the wilderness for forty days and nights.)  C. This was the agent of His temptation. v 13 (Satan Himself tempted Jesus.)  D. This was the result of His temptation. v 13 (The angels came and ministered unto Him.) IV. JESUS CALLED FOUR DISCIPLES: VS 14-20  A. This was the reason for their called. vs 14-15 (Jesus was preaching the Kingdom of God.)  B. This was the call of Simon and Andrew. vs 16-18  1. Simon and Andrew were told that would become fishers of men. v 17  2. Simon and Andrew accepted the call of Jesus because they followed Him. v 18  3. This was the call of James and John vs 19-20 (James and John accepted the call of Jesus and followed Him.) V. JESUS CAST OUT AN UNCLEAN SPIRIT: VS 21-28  A. This was the place of that miracle. v 21 (This miracle occurred in a Synagogue in Capernaum.)  B. This was the circumstance for that miracle. v 21 (The people were astonished by His teachings.)  C. These were the reasons for that miracle. vs 23-26  1. Jesus wanted to establish His authority.  2. Jesus desired to demonstrate His compassion.  D. These were the results of that miracle. vs 27-28  1. That miracle amazed the people. v 27  2. That miracle engendered His fame. v 28 VI. JESUS HEALED MANY DISEASES: VS 29-34  A. Jesus heals the mother-in-law of Peter. vs 29-31  B. Jesus healed many of the people who were in town. vs 32-34 VII. JESUS WENT ON A PREACHING TOUR: VS 35-39  A. This was His eagerness to preach. v 35  1. Jesus arose early in the morning to prepare Himself for preaching.  2. Each person should arise early in life and prepare himself to meet his God. Eccles. 12:1, Amos 4:12  B. This was the manner in which Jesus prepared Himself for preaching. v 35  1. Jesus prayed unto His God. John 20:17  2. We as Christians should prepare ourselves by obeying the gospel of Christ, and then we could pray unto the Lord our God. Romans 6:16-18, 1 Tim. 2:1-4  C. This was the motivation for His preaching. vs 36-37  1. All of the people were seeking the Lord.  2. We as Christians should show other people how that they can find the Lord their God. Acts 17:24-28  D. This was the zeal which Jesus had to preach. v 39  1. Jesus was motivated by zeal and compassion for lost soul.  2. We as disciples should be motivated by zeal and compassion for lost souls. Prov. 11:30, John 4:35, James 5:19-20  E. These were His works in being a preacher. v 39  1. Jesus worked in the vineyard of the Lord. v 39, John 4:34, John 9:4  2. Jesus finished His work in the vineyard of the Lord. v 39, John 17:4, Rev. 14:13 VIII. JESUS HEALED A LEPER: VS 40-45  A. This was the condition of the leper. v 40 (This man was a leper.)  B. This was his request. v 40 (This leper wanted to be healed.)  C. This was his blessing. vs 41-42 (This leper was healed.)  D. This was his charge. vs 43-44 (This leper was to show himself unto the priest according to the law of Moses.)  E. This was his happiness. v 45 (This leper told everyone.) CHAPTER 2 

I. JESUS HEALED A PALSIED MAN: VS 1-12 

A. This was the circumstance for that miracle. vs 1-2 (There was a great crowd gathered to together to hear Jesus preach.)  B. This was the need for that miracle. v 3 (There was a man sick of the palsy.)  C. These were the blessings of that miracle. vs 4-5 (The man was healed of the palsy, and his sins were forgiven.)  D. This was the controversy of that miracle. vs 6-7 (Some of the people thought Jesus had blasphemed because He had forgiven the man of his sins.)  E. This was the purpose of that miracle. vs 8-11 (Jesus wanted them to know that He had power to forgive sins.)  F. This was the results of the miracle. v 12 (Those people glorified God because of that miracle.) II. JESUS CALLED MATTHEW: VS 13-17  A. This was the call of Matthew. vs 13-14 (Jesus called Matthew, a tax collector, to follow Him.)  B. This was the response of Matthew. v 14 (Matthew followed Jesus.)  C. These were the results of the call of Matthew. vs 15-17  1. Jesus ate with publicans and sinners. v 15  2. Jesus was criticized for having fellowship with publicans and sinners. v 16  3. Jesus replied that He had not come to call the righteous to repentance, but the sinners to repentance. v 17 III. THE QUESTION CONCERNING FASTING: VS 18-22  A. This was the logical question to ask. v 18 (Jesus was asked why His disciples did not fast?)  B. This was the response to that question. vs 19-22  1. It was not the time for fasting because Jesus was with His disciples. v 19  2. There would come a time for His disciples to fast because Jesus would be taken from them. v 20  3. There would be a new dispensation for His disciples. vs 21-22 a). The law of Moses would be annulled. v 21, Col. 2:14  b). The law of Christ would be established. v 22, John 1:17, Acts 2:1-47 IV. THE TEACHING OF JESUS CONCERNING THE SABBATH: VS 23- 28 A. This was the circumstance for His teaching. vs 23-24 (Jesus and His disciples plucked ears of corn to eat on the Sabbath day.)  B. This was the revelation of His teaching. vs 25-26 (When David was hungry, he ate the shewbread which was lawful only for the priests to eat.) 1 Samuel 21:6, Lev. 24:9  C. This was the authority for His teaching. vs 27-28 (Jesus revealed that He was also Lord of the Sabbath day.) CHAPTER 3 

I. A MAN WHO HAD A WITHERED HAND WAS HEALED BY JESUS: VS 1-6 

A. This was his need to be healed. v 1 (The man had a withered hand.)  B. This was the opposition for his being healed. vs 2-3 (It was the Sabbath day.)  C. This was the response to his being healed. v 4 (Jesus asked, "It is lawful to do well on the Sabbath day?")  D. This was the blessing of his being healed. v 5 (The man was healed.)  E. This was the results of his being healed. v 6 (This miracle caused a plot against Jesus.) II. JESUS HEALED MANY PEOPLE AT THE SEASIDE: VS 7-12  A. This was His fame in healing. vs 7-9 (Great multitudes of people were following Jesus.)  B. This was His power to heal. v 10 (Jesus proved that He had power to heal.)  C. This was His authority in healing. vs 11-12 (Jesus commanded the unclean spirit not to call Him the Son of God.) III. JESUS CHOOSES THE TWELVE APOSTLES: VS 13-19  A. This was the reality of their called. v 13 (Jesus called the twelve apostles unto Him.)  B. This was their ordination. v 14 (The apostles were ordained to preach the gospel of Christ.)  C. This was their mission. v 14 (The apostles were to preach the gospel of Christ.)  D. This was the power which Jesus gave them to preach. v 15 (Jesus gave them power over unclean spirit, and the power to heal the sick.)  E. The names of the apostles are listed in verses 16-19. IV. THE UNPARDONABLE SIN: VS 20-30  A. This was the reason for that teaching. vs 20-22 (Jesus was charged with possessing the powers of Satan.)  B. This was the logic for that teaching. vs 23-27 (Jesus wanted them to know that He had power over Satan.) 1 John 3:8  1. If we blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, this means that we would fail to obey the gospel of Christ. Heb. 2:1-4  2. If we blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, this means that we would reject the truth of God. Heb. 10:26-29 V. THE TRUE KINDRED OF JESUS: VS 31-35  A. This was the request of His kindred. vs 31-32 (The kindred of Jesus wanted to see Him.)  B. This was the answer of Jesus for His kindred. vs 33-35 (Jesus said, "Whoever does the will of God is the same as my kindred) CHAPTER 4 

I. THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER: VS 1-9 

A. This was the circumstance for that parable. vs 1-2 (There was a great crowd of people that were following Jesus.)  B. This was the sower of the parable. v 3 (A man went forth to sow.)  C. This was the seed of the parable. v 4 (The seed was a grain which was sown.)  D. This was the field of the parable. vs 4-8  1. There was the wayside ground. v 4  2. There was the stony ground. vs 5-6  3. There was the thorny ground. v 7  4. There was the good ground. v 8  E. This was the admonition of the parable. v 9 (We should hear and understand the meaning of the parable.) II. THE PURPOSE OF THE PARABLES: VS 10-13  A. This was the question which was asked concerning parables. v 10 (The disciples asked Jesus, "Why do you teach in parables?")  B. This was the answer which Jesus gave concerning parables. vs 11-13 (It is given unto you to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God.) III. THIS WAS THE INTERPRETATION OF THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER: VS 14-20  A. The sower in the parable was the preacher. v 14, 2 Tim. 4:1-4  B. The seed in the parable was the word of God. v 14, Heb. 4:12  C. The field in the parable was the heart of man. vs 15-20  1. Those persons who were the wayside hearers in the parable allowed Satan to steal the word of God from their hearts. v 15, 2 Cor. 11:13-15  2. Those persons who were the stony heart hearers in the parable permitted persecutions to hinder them from serving God. vs 16-17, 2 Tim. 3:12, Rev. 2:10  3. Those persons who were the thorny heart hearers in the parable allowed riches to keep them from serving God. vs 18-19, 2 Tim. 6:9-10  4. Those persons who were the good hearted hearers in the parable were obedient unto the laws of God, and produce fruit according to their individual talents. v 20, Heb. 5:8-9, Romans 6:16-18 IV. THESE ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE HEARERS: VS 21- 25  A. Spiritual truth should not be hiddened. v 21, Psa. 119:105, Matt. 5:14  B. Spiritual truth has been revealed. v 22, 2 Tim. 3:16-17  1. This is the admonition for man to hear the revealed spiritual truth. v 23 (We should hear the word of God because we have ears with which to hear.) Rev. 1:3  2. This is the reason for that admonition to hear with our ears. vs 24-25 (We are accountable unto God.) Heb. 2:1-4 V. THIS IS THE SPIRITUAL GROWTH IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD: VS 26-29  A. This is the planting which takes place in the Kingdom of God. vs 26-27, Matt. 28:18-20  1. The sower is the teacher of the word of God. Heb. 5:14-16  2. The seed is the gospel of Christ. 1 Cor. 15:1-4, Romans 1:14-18  3. The ground is the heart of the people. 2 Tim. 2:1-4, 2 Peter 3:9  B. This is the growing which takes place in the Kingdom of God. v 28, 1 Cor. 3:6-9  1. The blade is the little children (new converts) in the Kingdom of God. 1 John 2:12-14, 1 Peter 2:1-3  2. The young ear is the young men in the Kingdom of God. 1 John 2:12-14, 1 Tim. 4:12  3. The grown ear is the fathers in the Kingdom of God. 1 John 2:12-14, Eph. 6:1-4  C. This is the reaping which will take place in the Kingdom of God. v 29, Gal. 6:7-9  1. The sickle is the death of an individual because he has an appointment with death. Heb. 9:27, Romans 5:12  2. The harvest is the judgment at the end of the world. Acts 17:30-31 VI. THE PARABLE OF THE MUSTARD SEED: VS 30-32 (This parable shows how the church grows in size.) 

VII. JESUS TAUGHT BY USING PARABLES: VS 33-34 

A. When Jesus was teaching in public places, He would use parables.  B. When Jesus was teaching in private places, He would explain the means of parables. VIII. JESUS CALMED THE STORM: VS 35-41  A. This was their voyage. vs 35-36 (They were sailing in a ship.)  B. This was their crisis. v 37 (There arose a great storm.)  C. This was their cry. v 38 (They cried, "Master, we are perishing.")  D. This was their rebuke. vs 39-40 (They were rebuked for the lack of faith.)  E. This was their astonishment. v 41 (They said, "Even the winds obey His voice.) CHAPTER 5 

I. THE DEMONIAC OF GADARENES IS HEALED: VS 1-20 

A. This was his misery. vs 1-5 (This man cried day and night.)  B. This was his hope. vs 6-8 (This man saw Jesus coming unto him.)  C. This was his blessing. vs 9-15 (This man was healed.)  D. This was to be his testimony. vs 16-20 (This man was to tell all his friends what the Lord had done for him.) II. THE DAUGHTER OF JAIRUS IS RAISED FROM THE DEAD: VS 21- 24, 35-43  A. This was her sickness. vs 21-23 (She was near the point of death.)  B. This was her hope. v 24 (Jesus was coming unto her.)  C. This was her death. v 35 (She died before Jesus could come unto her.)  D. This was her resurrection from the dead. vs 36-43 (Jesus raised her from the dead.) III. THE WOMAN WITH THE ISSUE OF BLOOD IS HEALED: VS 25-34  A. This was her fate. vs 25-26 (She had an issue of blood for twelve years.)  B. This was her hope. vs 27 (Jesus was in her presence.)  C. This was her faith. vs 27-28 (She knew that Jesus could heal her.)  D. This was her blessing. v 29 (She was healed.)  E. This was her testimony. vs 30-34 (This woman confessed that she had been healed.) CHAPTER 6 

I. JESUS IS REJECTED AT NAZARETH: VS 1-6 

A. This was His journey to Nazareth. v 1 (Jesus came into His own country.)  B. This was His teaching in the synagogue. v 2 (Those people asked where did this man get that wisdom.)  C. This was His rejection at Nazareth. vs 2-3 (Those people said that they knew the kindred of Jesus.)  D. This was His reasoning with the people. v 4 (Jesus said a prophet is not without honor except in his own country.)  E. This was His limited work in Nazareth. vs 5-6 (The unbelief of those people hindered His work.) II. JESUS SENDS THE TWELVE ON THE LIMITED COMMISSION: VS 7-13  A. This was the power which Jesus gave unto them for that commission. v 7 (Jesus gave unto them power over unclean spirit.)  B. These were their charges for that commission. vs 8-11  1. Take nothing with you for your journey because you will receive the proper provisions.  2. If they receive you in a house, stay there until you depart from that place.  3. If they do not receive you, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them.  C. This was the reason for that commission. v 12 (The people should repent of their sins.)  D. This was their work on that commission. v 13 (They healed many of the sick who need to be healed.) III. JOHN, THE BAPTIST IS BEHEADED: VS 14-29  A. This was the reality that John, the Baptist had been beheaded. vs 14-16 (When Herod heard of the fame of Jesus, he thought that John, the Baptist was raised from the dead because Herod had John beheaded.)  B. This was the reason why Herod had John, the Baptist beheaded. vs 17-20 (John, the Baptist had told Herod that it was unlawful for him to take his brother's wife.)  C. These were the circumstances under which Herod had John, the Baptist beheaded. vs 21-29  1. When the birthday of Herod at arrived, the daughter of Herodias came in and danced for him.  2. Herod swore with an oath that he would give her anything that she ask for up to half of his kingdom.  3. She asked for the head of John, the Baptist on a charger.  4. Herod keep his promised and had John, the Baptist beheaded. IV. THE MIRACLE OF THE LOAVES: VS 30-44  A. This was the circumstance for that miracle. vs 30-34 (Jesus was teaching the people that were following Him.)  B. This was the reason for that miracle. vs 35-40 (The people were hungry and had no money to buy food with which to eat.)  C. This was the power of that miracle. vs 41-42 (Jesus gave thanks for the five loaves and the two fishes.)  D. This was the results of that miracle. vs 43-44 (The people had plenty to eat, and there were twelve baskets left over.) V. JESUS WALKED UPON THE SEA: VS 45-52  A. This was His preparation for that miracle. vs 45-46 (Jesus went into a mountain to pray.)  B. This was His power to perform that miracle. vs 47-48 (Jesus came to His disciples walking upon the sea.)  C. This was His comforting words for that miracle. vs 49-50 (Jesus said, "Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.")  D. This was the results of that miracle. vs 51-52 (The disciples were amazed because they had doubted the miracle of the loaves.) VI. THE PEOPLE OF GENNESARET: VS 53-56  A. These were their great opportunities in life. v 53  1. Jesus came into their own country. v 53 a). This meant that salvation would be offered unto them.  b). This denoted that great sermons could be preached unto them.  c). This signified that their sick could be healed. 2 Jesus will come into our lives? Rev. 3:20 a). This means that salvation is being offered for our souls. Romans 1:16  b). This reveals that great sermons can be preached unto us. 2 Tim. 4:1- 4  c). This signifies that God will supply our physical need and our spiritual needs. James 1:17, Phil. 4:19, Eph. 1:3  B. This was the vision which they had. v 54  1. They recognized Jesus for what He was.  2. We as Christians can recognize Christ for what He is. a). Christ has all power and authority in heaven and on earth for the purpose of redeeming sinful man. Matt. 28:18-20  b). Christ is the builder of the church. Matt. 16:13-18  c). Christ is the purchaser of the church. Eph. 5:25  d). Christ is the head of the church. Eph. 1-22-23  e). Christ is the savior of the church. Eph. 5:23  f). Christ has the keys of hell and death. Rev. 1:18  g). Christ is our Judge. 2 Cor. 5:10  C. This was the work which they did. v 55  1. They were seeking Christ.  2. Each person can seek Christ. John 6:68, 2 Cor. 5:17, Gal. 3:27, Col. 3:11  D. This was the faith which they had. v 56  1. They manifest a great faith in the Lord.  2. Christians should manifest a great faith in the Lord. 2 Cor. 5:7, Eph. 6:16 MARK 7 

I. THE TRADITION OF MEN: VS 1-13 

A. This was the formalism in the traditions of men. vs 1-4 (The Pharisees did not want any person to eat with unwashed hands.)  B. This was the zeal which they had for the traditions of men. v 5 (The Pharisees said to Jesus, "Why don't your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?")  C. This was the rebuke for the traditions of men. vs 6-9 (Jesus said, "Your worship me in vain because you teaching for doctrine the commandments of men.")  D. This was the inquiry into the traditions of men. vs 10-13 (The Pharisees twisted the word of God so that it would please their way of thinking.) 2 Peter 3:15-16 II. THE HEART OF MAN IS THE CENTER OF HIS LIFE: VS 14-23  A. An evil heart can defile a man. vs 14-16, Prov. 4:23, Prov 23:7  B. An evil heart meditates upon evil deeds. vs 17-19  C. An evil heart produces evil deeds. vs 20-22  1. The act of adultery comes from an evil heart. v 20  2. The deed of fornication occurs in an evil heart. v 20  3. The conduct of murder comes from an evil heart. v 20  4. The feat of theft occurs in an evil heart. v 21  5. The act of covetousness comes from an evil heart. v 22  6. The deed of wickedness occurs in an evil heart. v 22  7. The conduct of deceit comes from an evil heart. v 22  8. The feat of lasciviousness occurs in an evil heart. v 22  9. An evil eye comes from an evil heart. v 22  10. The act of blasphemy occurs in an evil heart. v 22  11. The manifestation of pride comes from an evil heart. v 22  12. The deed of foolishness occurs in an evil heart. v 22  D. An evil heart causes a man to fall from God's grace. v 23, Heb. 3:12-13 III. THE DAUGHTER OF THE SYROPHENICIAN WOMAN IS HEALED: VS 24-30  A. This was her request. vs 24-26 (The mother of the daughter requested that her daughter be healed.)  B. This was her answer. v 27 (The Jewish people are the first people who should be healed.)  C. This was her reply. v 28 (The dogs, which were an abomination to the Jewish people, also eat the children's bread.)  D. This was her blessings. vs 29-30 (The Lord healed her daughter.) IV. JESUS HEALED A DEAF AND DUMB MAN: VS 31-37  A. This was his sickness. vs 31-32 (This man was deaf and dumb.)  B. This was his request. vs 32 (This man wanted to be healed.)  C. This was his blessing. vs 33-35 (This man was healed.)  D. This was the results. vs 36-37 (This miracle was made know to all.) CHAPTER 8 

I. JESUS FED FOUR THOUSAND PEOPLE: VS 1-9 

A. This was His love. vs 1-2 (Jesus manifested His love on the people because they had nothing to eat.)  B. This was His knowledge. v 3 (Jesus knew that many of them could not make it home.)  C. This was His opposition. vs 4-5 (They did not have any food with which to eat.)  D. This was His power. vs 6-9 (Jesus fed the multitude and send them away.) II. THE SIGN-SEEKERS: VS 10-13  A. This was the request for a sign. vs 10-11 (The Pharisees wanted to see a sign from heaven.)  B. This was His answer concerning a sign. v 12 (There shall no sign be given unto you.)  C. This was the result. v 13 (Jesus left that place.) III. THE LEAVEN OF FALSE TEACHING: VS 14-21  A. This was the warning of false teaching. vs 14-15 (Jesus warned the people to be aware of false teachers.) 2 Cor. 11:14-15  B. These were the reasons for false teaching. vs 16-20  1. Vain reasoning caused false teaching. v 16, Romans 10:1-3  2. The lack of knowledge engenders false teaching. vs 17-20, Hosea 4:12  C. This was the abomination of false teaching. v 21 (False teachers fail to understand the truth.) Jude 3-4 IV. THE BLIND MAN OF BETHESDA IS HEALED: VS 22-26  A. This was his condition. v 22 (This man was blind.)  B. This was his blessing. vs 23-25 (The blind man was healed.)  C. This was his instruction. v 26 (This man was to tell no one of his being healed.) V. THE GREAT CONFESSION: VS 27-30  A. This was the general question which was asked. v 27 (Jesus asked, "Whom do men say that I am?")  B. These were the different answers which were given. v 28  1. Some people thought that Jesus was John, the Baptist. v 28  2. Some people revealed that Jesus was Elias. v 28  3. Some people said that Jesus was one of the prophets. v 28  C. This was the specific question which was asked. v 29 (Jesus ask, "Whom do you say that I am?")  D. This was the exact answer which was given. v 29 (Peter said, "Thou art the Christ.")  E. This was the specific instructions which was given. v 30 (They were not to tell anyone at that particular time.) VI. JESUS FORETOLD HIS DEATH: VS 31-33  A. This would be the manner of His death. v 31 (Jesus would be crucified.)  B. This was the opposition of His death. v 32 (Peter rebuked the Lord for revealing that truth.)  C. This was the purpose of His death. v 33 (Jesus would become our Savior.) VII. THE COST OF DISCIPLESHIP: VS 34-38  A. This is the call for discipleship. v 34 (Jesus says come unto me.) Matt. 11:28-30  B. These are the requirement for discipleship. v 34  1. A Christian must deny himself to his own sinful way of life. Romans 6:12- 13  2. A saint need to carry the cross which Jesus gives him to bear. 2 Cor. 12:7- 10  3. A disciple should follow Christ. 1 Peter 2:21  C. These are the reasons for cross bearing. vs 35-38  1. Christians should lose their lives for the sake of the gospel. v 35, Romans 14:7-9  2. Our soul is more precious than the world. vs 36-37, Matt. 10:28  3. A person must confess his Lord in this life so that he can live eternally with Him in that Heavenly Home. v 38, Phil. 2:5-11 CHAPTER 9 

I. THE KINGDOM OF GOD: V 1 

A. What is the Kingdom of God? v 1 (The Kingdom of God is the church.) Matt 16:13-18  B. What is the nature of the Kingdom of God? (The Kingdom of God is a Spiritual Kingdom.) John 18:36, Col. 1:13-14  C. When was the Kingdom of God established? (The Kingdom of God was established on the day of Pentecost.) Acts 2:1-47, Rev. 1:9, Heb. 12:28-29  D. What is the purpose of the Kingdom of God?  1. The Kingdom of God is to offer salvation unto humanity. Heb. 12:22-24  2. The Kingdom of God makes a person to rule over the powers of Satan. Luke 17:20-21, Romans 6:12-13  E. What is the final destination of the Kingdom of God? (The final destination of the Kingdom of God will be in heaven itself.) 1 Cor. 15:24-28 II. THE TRANSFIGURATION OF JESUS: VS 2-10  A. This was the mission for that transfiguration. v 2 (Jesus took Peter, James and John with Him into a high mountain so that He could be transfigured before them.)  B. This was the nature of that transfiguration. vs 3-4 (Our Lord was changed into a Spiritual form because Moses and Elias was talking with Him.)  C. This was the purpose of that transfiguration. vs 5-8  1. Our Lord wanted these apostles to know that the tabernacle age was being fulfilled. Col. 2:14, Gal. 3:19-20  2. Our Lord wanted these apostles to know that this was the coming of the church age. Isa. 2:2-3, Matt. 16:13-18, Acts 2:1-47, Heb. 12:20-24  D. This was the charge for that transfiguration. vs 9-10 (They were to tell no one of this event until the Son of man was raised from the dead.) 2 Peter 1:15-18 III. THE WORK OF JOHN, THE BAPTIST: VS 11-13  A. This was the promise of his coming. v 11 (John, the Baptist would come in the likeness of Elias.)  B. This was the manner of his coming. v 12 (John, the Baptist would restore all things.)  C. This was the reality of his coming. v 13 (John, the Baptist had come and had been persecuted.) IV. THE HEALING OF THE DEMONIC SON: VS 14-29  A. This was the helpfulness of this man. vs 14-18 (This man was completely helpless.)  B. This was his hope. vs 19-24 (The Lord had to cast this evil spirit out of the man.)  C. This was his blessing. vs 25-29 (Jesus healed the man.) V. JESUS SPOKE OF HIS COMING DEATH: VS 30-32  A. This would be the manner of His death. vs 30-31 (Our Lord would be crucified.)  B. This would be the manner of His burial. (Our Lord would be buried in a tomb.)  C. This would be the manner of His resurrection. (Our Lord would be raised from the grave.) Rev. 1:18  D. This was the mystery concerning His death, burial and resurrection. v 31 (The apostles did not understand His crucifixion at that time.) 1 Cor. 15:1-4 VI. THE GREATEST SERVANT IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD: VS 33-41  A. This was the desire for true greatness. vs 33-34 (One disciple wanted to be greater than another disciple in the Kingdom of God.)  B. This was the mark of true greatness. v 35 (The greatest servant in the Kingdom of God is the person who does the most services in the Kingdom of God.)  C. This is the example of true greatness. vs 36-37 (A little child has the character of true greatness because they are impartial.) Acts 10:34-35, James 2:9  D. This is the service of true greatness. vs 38-41 (We as Christians must do every thing in the name of the Lord.) Col. 3:16-17 VII. OVERCOMING THE SOURCE OF TEMPTATIONS: VS 42-50  A. These are the charges to overcome our temptations. v 42  1. Christians should not cause anyone to fall from God's grace. Matt. 5:16  2. Saints should help those who are weak. Gal. 6:1-2  B. These are the requirements for overcome our temptations. vs 43-48  1. We as being Christians must do spiritual surgery upon our unlawful desires. vs 43-48, Prov. 4:23, Prov. 23:7  2. We as being disciples must mortify the deeds of the flesh. Gal. 5:19-21  C. This is the proof that we must overcome our temptations. v 49 (We as being saints must endure temptations.) James 1:2-4  D. These are the admonitions to overcome our temptations. v 50  1. Christians are the salt of the earth. Matt. 5:14  2. Our speech must be seasoned with salt. Col. 4:6
