Chapter 1 

I. The creative works of God. Verses 1-31 

A. These are the characteristics of His creative works. Verses 1-28  1. God created the chaotic world on the first day. Verses 1-5  2. God created the firmament on the second day. Verses 6-8  3. God created the earth for plant life on the third day. Verses 9-13  4. God created the earth for seasons on the fourth day. Verses 14-19  5. God created fish and fowl life on the fifth day. Verses 20-23  6. God created animal life and man on the sixth day. Verses 24-28  a). Man is not the offspring of animals. Verses 26-27  b). Man is the offspring of God. Acts 17:28-29  B. This was the purpose of His creative works. Verses 29-30  1. Man would have dominion over the earth. Verse 29  2. Man would have dominion over the other created life. Verse 30  C. I. The Sabbath day. Verses 1-3 

A. This was the meaning of the Sabbath day. Verses 1-2  1. The Sabbath day meant that God had finished his creation. Verse 1  2. The Sabbath day meant that God would rest from His creative works upon that day. Verse 2  B. This was the purpose of the Sabbath day. Verse 3  1. God blessed the Sabbath day. Verse 3  2. Verses 10-14  C. This was the purpose of this garden. Verses 15-17  1. The garden of Eden gave Adam some responsibilities. Verse 15  2. The garden of Eden gave Adam a choice between living and dying. I. The first temptation. Verses 1-7 

A. This is the characteristics of that temptation. Verse 1  1. The devil is subtle. 2 Cor. 11:14-15  2. The devil is crafty. 2 Cor. 4:3-4  B. This is the manner of that temptation. Verses 2-5  1. The devil is a liar. John 8:44  2. The devil will continue to lie about the truth. Gal. 1:6-9  C. The is the appeal of that temptation. Verse 6  1. I. The sin of Cain. Verses 1-8 

A. This was the reason for his sin. Verses 1-3  1. Cain was not born in sin. Verses 1-2  2. Cain transgressed the law of God. Verses 3, 1 John 3:4  B. This was the effects of his sin. Verses 4-5  1. I. This wickedness of humanity. Verses 1-8 

A. This was the reasons for that wickedness. Verses 1-5  1. There was a break-down in the home life. Verses 1-3  a). They married ungodly women, and they practiced polygamy.  b). We should not marry ungodly women, and we can't practice polygamy. 2 Cor. 6:14, Matt. 19:3-9  2. There was organized crime and violence. Verse 4, 2 Tim. 3:15  B. This was the effect of that wickedness. Verses 5-8  1. The Lord saw the wickedness of man. Verse 5, 1 Peter 3:12  2. The Lord was grieved at sinful man. Verse 6, Gal. 6:6-9  3. The Lord destroyed sinful man. Verse 7, Acts 17:30-31  C. The was the salvation from that wickedness. Verse 8  1. The grace of God was their only hope for salvation. Verse 8  2. The grace of God is our only hope for salvation. Heb. 10:26-29 II. The salvation of Noah. Verses 9-22  A. The reason for his salvation. Verses 9-10  1. Noah walked with God. Verses 9-10  2. We must walk with God. 1 Peter 2:21, 2 Peter 2:5  B. The was the need for his salvation. Verses 11-13  1. The Lord was going to destroy the earth. Verses 11-13  2. I. The obedience of Noah. Verses 1-5 

A. This was the motivation for his obedience. Verse 1  1. Noah was given an invitation to obey the laws of God. Verse 1  2. We are given an invitation to obey the laws of Christ. Matt. 11:28-30, Heb. 3:7-8  B. These are the essentials of his obedience. Verses 2-3  1. Noah was given instruction to obey. Verses 2-3  2. We are given instruction to obey. Heb. 5:8-9  a). A. This was the proof of His blessings. Verse 1  1. The Lord did not forget Noah. Verse 1  2. The Lord will never forget his Christians. 2 Cor. 4:8-10  B. The was the nature of His blessings. The Lord brought the art to rest on Mount Arrant. Verses 4-5  2. The Lord can gives us rest. Matt. 11:28-30, Rev. 14:13 II. The hope of Noah. Verses 6-12  A. This was the nature of his hope. Verses 6-9  1. Noah wanted to be delivered from the life which he had in the ark. Verses 6-9  2. We want to be delivered from this earthly life. 2 Cor. 5:1-5  B. This was the eagerness of his hope. I. The new life for man upon the earth. Verses 1-7 

A. This was the purpose of that life. Verse 1  1. This new life was to be fruitful.  2. This new life was to multiply.  3. This new life was to fill the earth.  B. This was the nature of that life. Verses 2-3  1. Man would have dominion over animal life. Verse 2  2. Man would have dominion over plant life. Verse 3  C. These were the essentials of that life. Verses 4-6  1. Man should not eat blood. Verses 4, Deut. 12:23, Acts 15:20  2. Man should not murder another man. Verses 5-6, 1 John 3:15  D. These were the effects of that life. Verse 7  1. That new life would be fruitful.  2. That new life would multiply. II. The covenant of God. Verses 8-17  A. This was the scope of that covenant. Verses 8-10  1. That covenant was for man. Verses 8-9  2. That covenant was for every creature. Verse 10  B. This was the nature of that covenant. Verse 11  1. The earth would never again be destroyed b y a flood. Verse 11  2. The earth will be destroyed by fire. 2 Peter 3:10-13  C. This was the seal of the covenant. Verses 12-17  1. The rainbow proves that the world will never again be destroyed by water. Verses 12-17  2. I. The call of Abraham. Verses 1-5 

A. This was the nature of his call. Verse 1, Heb. 11:8-10  1. Abraham was to leave the country of sin. Verse 1, Col. 1:13-14  2. Abraham was to give up the false religions of his relatives.
