CHAPTER 12

I. THE ANOINTING OF JESUS: VS 1-8

A. This was the occasion for His anointing. vs 1-2 (They made Jesus a supper.) B. This was the reality for His anointing. v 3 (Mary poured the ointment on His feet.) C. This was the criticism for His anointing. vs 4-6 (Judas, who was a thief, wanted the money.) D. This was the purpose of His anointing. vs 7-8 (Mary anointed Jesus in advance of His burial.) II. THE POPULARITY OF JESUS: VS 9-11 A. This was the reason for His popularity. v 9 (Jesus had raised Lazarus from the dead.) B. This was the plot against His popularity. v 10 (The chief Priest plan to put Lazarus to death.) C. This was the consequence of His popularity. v 11 (Many of the Jews kept believing on Jesus.) III. THE TRIUMPHAL ENTRY OF JESUS INTO JERUSALEM: VS 12-19 A. This was the joy of His entry. vs 12-13 (The people cried, "Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.") B. This was the humility of His entry. v 14 (Jesus was riding a donkey: the lowest of all animals.) C. The was the prophecy of His entry. v 15. (Jesus fulfilled that prophecy.) Zech. 9:9 D. This was the value of His entry. v 16 (This event later benefited His disciples.) E. This was the hatred of His entry. vs 17-19 (The Pharisees said, "Behold, the world is gone after him.") IV. CHRISTIAN SERVICE: VS 20-26 A. This is the beginning of that service. vs 20-22 1. They said, "Sir, we would see Jesus." 2. Each person should learn of Jesus. Matt. 11:28-30 B. These are expectations of that service. vs 23-26 1. A Christian should glorify the Son of man. v 23, Gal. 2:20 2. A member of the church must die to his old life of sin. v 24, Romans 6:3-6 3. A disciple needs to love the spiritual life more than the physical life. v 25, Matt. 16:26 4. A saint ought to follow his Lord's example. v 26, 1 Peter 2:21 C. This is the blessing for that service. v 26 (A Christian is receiving honor from God.) Phil. 2:13 V. THE WORKS OF CHRIST: VS 27-36 A. This was the purpose of His works. v 27 (Jesus said, "For this cause come I unto this hour.") B. This was the approval of His works. vs 28-30 (The Father glorified Jesus for His works upon the earth.) Matt. 3:17, Matt. 17:5 C. This was the power of His works. vs 31-33 (The crucifixion of Christ would defeat the powers of Satan.) 1 John 3:8 D. This was the glory of His works. vs 34-36 (Christians have receive complete enlightenment because Jesus is the Light of the world.) VI. SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS: VS 37-43 A. This was the reason for that blindness. v 37 (They refused to believe His miracles.) John 20:30-31 B. This was the cause of that spiritual blindness. vs 37-41 (This was prophesied by Isaiah.) Isa. 53:1, Isa. 6:10, Isa. 6:1 C. This was the effect of that blindness. vs 42-43 (They loved the praises of men more than the praises of God.) 2 Tim. 3:4 VIII. THE MESSAGE OF CHRIST: VS 44-50 A. This was His message on faith. v 44 1. If we believe on Jesus, it would cause us to believe on God who sent Him. v 44, John 14:1-2 2. Christians should believe on God as being their Creator. Gen. 1:26-27, 1 John 5:7 3. Disciples must believe on Christ as being their Redeemer. Acts 2:34-38, Matt. 28:18-20 B. This was His message on sight. v 45 1. If we see Jesus as He was, it would be the same as seeing God as He is. "He that seeth me seeth him that sent me." 2. How should we see Jesus? a). We should see Jesus possessing the Divine Personage of God: Body, Soul and Spirit because Jesus was God manifested in the flesh. John 1:1-3, 14, 2 Cor. 5:18-19 b). We need to see Jesus possessing the Divine Nature of God because Jesus was the express image of His Person. Heb. 1:3, 1 Tim. 3:16 c). We must see Jesus possessing the Divine Powers of God because He revealed the Divine Power of God by the miracles which He performed. John 20:20-31 d). We ought to see Jesus possessing the Divine Attributes of God because He was sinless upon the earth. 1 Peter 2:21-23 C. This was His the message on light. v 46 (Jesus said, "I am the light of the world.") D. This was His message on judgment. vs 47-48 (The words of Christ will judge us on that last day.) Rev. 20:12-15 E. This was His message on authority. vs 49-50 (The message of Christ is authoritative.) Deut. 18:18-19, Heb. 1:1-3 CHAPTER 13

I. THE GREATEST EXAMPLE OF HUMILITY: VS 1-11

A. This was the servant of humility. vs 1-3 1. Jesus loved His disciples unto the end. v 1 2. Jesus would be betrayed. v 2 3. Jesus had all power and authority. v 3 B. This was the demonstration of humility. vs 4-5 (Jesus washed the feet of the disciples.) Phil. 2:5-11 C. This was the purpose of humility. vs 6-7 (The Creator wanted to set the example for humility.) John 1:1-3,14 D. This is the need for our humility. vs 8-11 (Each person needs to be washed by his Creator and his Redeemer so that he can be saved.) Heb. 10:22, 1 Peter 3:20-21, Acts 22:16 II. THE VALUE OF EXAMPLES: VS 12-17 A. This was the servant of examples. vs 12-13 (Our Lord and Master became the servant of examples.) Phil. 2:5-11 B. This was the reason for examples. vs 14-16 (We should follow our Lord's examples of service.) 1 Peter 2:21 C. These are the blessings of examples. v 17 (We are promised happiness for obeying his examples of service.) Phil. 4:4 III. JESUS FORETOLD HIS BETRAYAL: VS 22-25 A. This was the knowledge of His betrayal. vs 18-20 (Jesus said, "He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.") B. This was the statement of His betrayal. v 21 (Jesus said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you that one of you shall betray me.") C. This was the amazement of His betrayal. vs 22-25 (The apostles asked, "Who is it?") D. This was the revelation of His betrayal. v 26 (Jesus gave the sop to Judas Iscariot.) E. These were the preparations for His betrayal. vs 27-30 1. Satan entered into Judas Iscariot. v 27 2. Judas Iscariot went to betray Jesus. vs 28-30 IV. THE NEW COMMANDMENT: VS 31-35 A. These are the reasons for that new commandment. vs 31-32 1. The work of human redemption was motivated by love on the part of Deity. John 3:16, Romans 5:5-8 2. The work of human redemption must be motivated by love on our part. 1 John 2:8-11 B. This was the cause for that new commandment. v 33 1. The departure of Christ would demand love on our part. I. THE BROKEN HEART: VS 1-4

A. This is the commandment concerning a broken hearted. v 1 1. We are commanded not to be broken hearted. v 1 2. This seems like a hard commandment. Job 14:1-2, Romans 8:35-39 B. These are the ways for us to overcome our broken heart. v 1 1. We as Christians should believe in God as being our Creator. v 2, Gen. 1:26-27, 1 John 5:7 2. We as disciples must believe in Christ as being our Redeemer. Acts 2:34- 38, Matt. 28:18-20 C. These are the cures for our broken heart. vs 2-4 1. The promise of heaven can cure the broken heart. vs 2-3, Rev. 21:1-5 2. The revelation of the way can heal the broken hearted. v 4, Heb. 11:13- 16 II. THE WAY OF CHRIST : VS 5-7 A. This was the desire to know that way. v 5 1. They asked, "How can we know the way?" 2. We can know the way because we have been given the word of God. John 8:31-32 B. These were the revelations of the way. v 6 1. Christ is the way. v 6, Heb. 10:20 a). Christ is the way of redemption. 1 Cor. 15:1-5, 2 Cor. 5:17, Acts 4:12 b). Christ is the way of reconciliation. 2 Cor. 5:18-21, Eph. 2:11-18 2. Christ is the truth. v 6, John 18:37 a). Christ is personified as being the truth. John 1:14 b). The words of Christ are the evidence of truth. John 17:17, John 12:48 3. Christ is the life. v 6, 2 Tim. 1:10 a). Christ is the source of life. v 6, John 11:25 b). Christ gives unto us that abundant life. John 10:10 c). Christ gives unto us eternal life. Romans 5:21 C. These are the effects of the way. v 7 1. The true way gives unto us the proper knowledge of God. Heb. 1:1-3 2. Jesus has revealed God unto us because He was God manifested in the flesh. 1 Tim. 3:16, 2 Cor. 5:18-21, Phil. 2:5-11, John 1:1-3,14 III. THE MANIFESTATION OF GOD: VS 8-14 A. This was the desire for that manifestation. v 8 (Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied.") B. These were the personifications of that manifestation. v 9 1. Jesus possessed the Personage of God: Body, Soul and Spirit. a). The physical body of Jesus revealed the features (the resemblance) of the Spiritual Body. Heb. 1:1-3, 1 Cor. 15:47-49 b). The Spiritual Body of Jesus reveals the features of the physical body. 1 Tim. 2:5, Phil. 3:21 2. Jesus revealed the Divine Nature of God upon the earth because He was God in human form. Phil. 2:5-11, 1 Tim. 3:16 3. Jesus had the Divine Powers of God upon the earth because He performed many miracles. John 20:30-31 4. Jesus manifested the Divine Attributes of God upon the earth because He was sinless. 1 Peter 2:21-22 C. This was the proof of that manifestation. v 10 1. Christ proved His Deity by the works which He did. John 3:1-2 2. The works which we do with God being our Helper proves our own divine nature of life because God dwells in us. Phil. 2:13, 2 Peter 1:4 D. These were the mandates for this manifestation. v 11 1. We as Christians must believe in God. Heb. 11:6 2. We as disciples should believe in Christ. Acts 4:12 E. These are the blessings of that manifestation. vs 12-14 1. Christians can do the works of God. v 12, Phi. 2:13, Phil. 4:13, Romans 8:37, 1 Cor. 15:57-58 2. Disciples can have their prayers answered. vs 13-14, Eph. 3:20-21, Phil. 4:6, 1 Peter 5:7, James 5:16 IV. THE BLESSINGS OF CHRIST: VS 15-21 A. These are the mandate for His blessings. v 15 1. Our Lord said, "Keep my commandments." v 15 2. Christians must keep the commandments of God. 1 John 5:4 B. This is the gift of His blessings. vs 16-17 1. Christians are given the Holy Spirit as a gift for their salvation. Acts 2:38 2. Saints are given the Holy Spirit as a seal of their salvation. Eph. 1:13-14 3. Disciples are lead by the Spirit of God. Romans 8:14-17 4. Brethren can produce the fruits of the Spirit. Gal. 5:22-23 C. These are the assurances of His blessings. v 18 1. The Lord is with us. Matt. 20:20 2. The Lord is our Helper. Heb. 13:5-6 3. The Lord is our strength. Phil. 4:13 D. These are the values of His blessings. vs 19-21 1. Disciples can have the fulfillment of this life. v 19, John 10:10 2. Christians can be fully reconciled unto God. v 20 , John 17:21-23 3. Saints can perfect their love for God. v 21, 1 Cor. 13:4-7 V. THE MANIFESTATION OF CHRIST: VS 22-26 A. This was the desire for that manifestation. v 22 1. They asked, "Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world." 2. The Lord can not manifest Himself unto the world because the sinful people of the world will not obey Him. Heb. 5:8-9 B. These were the conditions of that manifestation. v 23 1. Our Lord said, "If a man love, he will keep my words." 2. We must keep the commandments of God because we could become a law breaker. James 2:10-13 C. These are the blessings of that manifestation. v 23 1. Jesus revealed that the Father and Himself (in being The Son) would come unto us, and make their abode with us. v 23 2. In being a Christian, we have fellowship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit because we are baptized into Christ by being baptized in Their Names. Matt. 28:18-20
3. In being a Christian , we are the temple of God because He dwells in us. 1 Cor. 3:16-17, Phil. 2:13
D. These were the consequences of that manifestation. v 24 1. Each person is accountable unto God. Heb. 2:1-3
2. Each person should obey the gospel of Christ. 2 Thess. 1:7-9
E. This was the evidence of that manifestation. v 25 1. The word of God is our evidence. Heb. 11:1
2. We must hear the word of God. Romans 10:17
F. These were the proofs of that manifestation. v 26 1. The Holy Spirit upholds the laws of Christ. John 17:7-14, Acts 2:47
2. The Holy Spirit is called Christ in matters of our own regeneration of life. Romans 8:9-10
VI. THE POWERS OF CHRIST: VS 27-31 A. These are the blessings of His powers. v 26 1. Our Lord gives us peace to comfort us while we are living upon the earth. v 26
2. Disciples are spiritually blessed by His legacy of peace. John 16:33
B. These are the glories of His powers. v 28 1. Our Lord has gone to heaven so that He can prepare a place for us. 1 Peter 1:3-5
2. Our Lord will come again to carry us to heaven. 1 Thess. 4:13-18
C. This is the evidence of His power. v 29 1. The words of Christ has proven His powers.
2. Christians should let the words of Christ dwell in them richly. Col. 3:16-17
D. These are the abilities of His powers. v 30 1. Jesus conquered the powers of Satan for Deity because the Devil is the enemy of God. John 8:44, Rev. 1:18
2. Jesus defeated the powers of Satan for us because the Devil is our enemy. 1 Peter 5:8, 1 John 3:8
E. There are the reasons for His powers. v 31 1. Jesus was obedient to the laws of God in the flesh. Heb. 5:8-9
2. Jesus has been given all powers and all authority in heaven and earth for the purposes of redeeming sinful man. Matt. 28:18-20
3. Saints must obey the laws of Christ. Romans 6:16-18
CHAPTER 15

I. PRODUCING SPIRITUAL FRUIT: VS 1-10

A. These are the sources for producing fruit. v 1 1. Christ is the true vine. v 1, Romans 8:1
2. God is the vine dresser. v 1, Heb. 12:5-6
B. These are the consequences for producing fruit. v 2 1. The unfruitful persons will be punished. v 2, 2 Cor. 5:10
2. The fruitful persons will be productive. v 2, Gal. 5:22-23
C. This is the reason for producing fruit. v 3 (Christians are cleansed by the word of God.) Psa. 19:7, Psa. 119:105
D. This is the commandment for producing fruit. vs 4-6 (Disciples must abide in Christ.) 2 Cor. 5:17, Heb. 5:8-9
E. These are the blessings for producing fruit. vs 7-10 1. Our prayers will be answered. v 7, Phil. 4:6
2. Our services will be accepted. v 8, Rev. 14:13
3. Our labors will be approved. vs 9-10, 1 Cor. 15:58
II. THE VALUE OF THE WORD OF GOD: VS 11-17 A. This is the reason for the word of God. v 11 (Jesus said, "These things have I spoken that your joy might be full.") Psa. 19:9-11
B. These are the requirements for the word of God. vs 12-13 1. Christians must love one another. v 12, 1 Peter 1:22
2. Saints need to manifest their love for one another. v 13, Gal. 5:14
C. These are the promises of the word of God. vs 14-17 1. If we obey the word of God, we are the friends of God. vs 14-15, James 2:23
2. If we obey the word of God, we are fruitful. v 16, Gal. 5:22-23
3. If we obey the word of God, our prayer will be answered. v 16, 1 Peter 5:7
4. If we obey the word of God, we will be fulfilling the law of God. v 17, James 2:8-19
III. THE PERSECUTION OF THE FAITHFUL: VS 18-21 A. These are the consolations for our persecutions. v 18 1. The world persecuted Jesus. Heb. 12:1-3
2. The world will persecute us for being a Christian. 2 Tim. 2:12
B. These are the reasons for our persecutions. v 19 1. Christians are not of the world. 1 Peter 4:1-4
2. Disciples do not love the world. 1 John 2:15-17
C. These are the ways to overcome our persecutions. v 20 1. Disciples must know the word of the God. John 8:31-32, 2 Tim. 3:15-17

IV. OUR OWN ACCOUNTABILITY: VS 22-27 A. These are the reasons for our own accountability. v 22 1. The truth has been revealed unto mankind. Romans 1:20, Romans 2:1
2. Each person must be accountable unto God because we have received the word of God. Heb. 2:1-3
B. These are the proofs of our own accountability. vs 23-24 1. We as Christians are accountable unto God because He is our Creator. Acts 17:30-31
2. We as disciples are accountable unto God because Christ is our Redeemer. 2 Cor. 5:10
C. These are the assurances of our own accountability. vs 26-27 1. The Holy Spirit testifies of our responsibilities. v 26, 2 Tim. 3:16-17
2. Faithful Christians testify of our accountability. v 27, Gal. 2:20, 1 Tim. 4:12
CHAPTER 16

I. OVERCOMING OUR PERSECUTIONS: VS 1-6

A. This is the requirement of our persecutions. v 1 (Christians must not become offended because of their persecutions.) 2 Tim. 3:12
B. This is the assurance of our persecutions. v 2 (Those who persecute us will believe that they are doing the will of God.) 2 Thess. 2:11-12
C. This is the reason for our persecutions. v 3 (Some people will not learn the truth of God.) 2 Tim. 3:13
D. This is the way to overcome our persecutions. v 4 (Disciples must believe the promises of God.) 2 Peter 1:3-4
E. This is the consequence of persecutions. vs 5-6 ( Persecutions will bring sorrow to our hearts.) Romans 8:35-37
II. THE HOLY SPIRIT: VS 7-15 A. This is the certainty of His coming. v 7 1. Our Lord said that the Holy Spirit would come. v 7
2. The Holy Spirit came and gave law to the New Testament church on the day of Pentecost. Acts 2:1-47
B. These are the characteristics of His work. v 8 1. The Holy Spirit will convict the world of sin. v 8, Acts 2:34-38
2. The Holy Spirit will demonstrate to the world the righteousness of God. v 8, Acts 24:25
3. The Holy Spirit will verify the judgment of the world. v 8, Acts 17:30-31
C. These are the reasons for His work. vs 9-11 1. The world is in a state of unbelief. v 9, 1 Cor. 1:21
2. The world needs the righteousness of God. v 10, Romans 1:16-18
3. The world should know the truth concerning the judgment. v 11, Romans 2:2
D. These are the traits of His being. vs 12-13 1. The Holy Spirit is called God in matters of our own creation of life because He possesses the Personage, Nature, Powers and Attributes of God. Acts 5:3-4
2. The Holy Spirit is called Christ in matters of our own redemption of life because He possesses the Personage, Nature, Powers and attributes of Christ. Romans 8:9-10
E. These are the proofs of His powers. vs 14-15 1. The Holy Spirit works in the name of God to uphold the laws of God in matters of our own creation of life. Gen. 1:2-3, Psa. 104:30, 2 Peter 1:20- 21
2. The Holy Spirit works in the name of Christ to uphold the laws of Christ in matters of our own redemption of life. Acts 2:1-4, 47, Romans 8:8-11, 2 Tim. 3:16-17
III. THE JOY OF SERVICE: VS 16-24 A. This is the hindrance of that joyful service. vs 16-19 1. The lack of spiritual knowledge can hamper our joy. vs 16-19
2. Christians need to be filled with all knowledge and wisdom of God. Col. 1:9-11
B. These are the promises of that joyful service. vs 20-22 1. Our Lord said, "Your sorrow shall be turned into joy." v 20, James 1:2-4
2. Our Lord said, "You hearts shall rejoice." v 22, Phil. 4:4
3. Our Lord said, "Your joy no man taketh from you." v 22, 1 Peter 5:10
C. These are the ways to achieve that joyful service. vs 23-24 1. Christians must pray so that they shall receive that joy. vs 22-23, Matt. 7:7
2. Disciples need to cast their cares upon the Lord so that the Lord can bless them. 1 Peter 5:7
IV. OVERCOMING THE WORLD: VS 25-33 A. These are the ways to overcome the world. vs 25-31 1. A Christian can overcome the world by spiritual knowledge. v 25, 1 Peter 2:1-3
2. A disciple can overcome the world by prayer. v 26, Heb. 4:14-16
3. A saint can overcome the world by faith. vs 27-31, 1 John 5:4, Heb. 11:6
B. These are the difficulties of overcoming the world. v 32 1. A Christian is tempted to love the pleasure of sin for a season. Heb. 11:24-27
2. A disciple is tempted to forsake Christ. Romans 8:35-39
C. These are the reasons for our overcoming the world. v 33 1. Christ overcome the world for us. v 33, 1 John 3:8

I. THE DEATH SENTENCE OF JESUS: VS 1-15

A. This was the mockery of Jesus. vs 1-3 (The Romans soldiers said, "Hail, King of the Jews.")
B. This was the innocence of Jesus. v 4 (Pilate said, "I find no fault in him.")
C. This was the animosity against Jesus. vs 5-7 (The crowd cried, "Crucify him, crucify him.")
D. This was the humility of Jesus. vs 8-11 (Jesus said unto Pilate, "Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were give thee from above.")
E. This was the defense for Jesus. vs 12 (Pilate sought to release Him.)
F. This was the verdict against Jesus. vs 13-15 (The angry crowd cried, "Away with him, away with him, crucify him.")
II. THE CRUCIFIXION OF CHRIST: VS 16-30 A. This was the march for His crucifixion. v 16-17 (The Romans soldiers took Jesus, and led him away.")
B. This was the reality of His crucifixion. v 18 (The place, "Where they crucified him.")
C. This was the title of His crucifixion. vs 19-22 ("Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.")
D. This was the fulfillment of His crucifixion. vs 23-24 (The scriptures had said, "They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots.") Psa. 22:18, Zech. 12:10
E. These were the sayings of His crucifixion. vs 25-30 1. Jesus said to Mary, "Woman behold thy son."
2. Jesus said, "I thirst."
3. Jesus said, "It is finished."
F. This was the death of His crucifixion. v 30 (Jesus gave up His spirit.)
III. THE PIERCED SIDE OF JESUS: VS 31-37 A. This was the cause for piercing His side. vs 31-32 ("The bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day.")
B. This was the act of piercing His side. vs 33-34 ("One of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.")
C. This was the reason for piercing His side. vs 35-37 (This act fulfilled these scriptures.) Psa. 34:20, Zech. 12:10
IV. THE BURIAL OF JESUS: VS 38-42 A. This was the permission for His burial. v 38 (Pilate granted permission for the burial of Jesus.)
B. This was the preparation for His burial. vs 39-40 ("They took the body of Jesus and prepared it for burial.")
C. This was the place of His burial. vs 41-42 (Jesus was buried in Joseph's new tomb.)
CHAPTER 20

I. THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST: VS 1-10

A. This was the day of His resurrection. v 1 (The first day of the week: Sunday)
B. This was the reality of His resurrection. v 1 ("The stone was taken away from the sepulcher.")
C. This was the unbelief of His resurrection. v 2 (They said, "We know not where they have laid him.")
D. These were the consequences of His resurrection. vs 3-10 1. Peter and John ran unto the empty tomb. vs 3-4
2. Peter and John examined the empty tomb. vs 5-7
3. John apparently believed. v 8
4. Peter apparently disbelieved. vs 9-10
II THE APPEARANCE OF THE RESURRECTED CHRIST: VS 11-18 A. This was the reason for His appearance. vs 11-13 (Mary had disbelieved because she had said, "I know not where they have laid him.")
B. This was the joy of His appearance. vs 14-16 (When Mary believed, she exclaimed: "Master".)
C. This was the instruction of His appearance. vs 17-18 (Jesus said, "Go tell my brethren.")
III. THE RESURRECTED CHRIST APPEARED UNTO HIS DISCIPLES: VS 19-23 A. This was the blessing of His appearance. v 19 (Jesus said, "Peace be unto you.")
B. This was the joy of His appearance. v 20 ("Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.")
C. These were the consequences of His appearance. vs 21-23 1. They were given a greater commission. v 21, Matt. 28:18-20
2. They were given a greater power. v 22, Acts 2:1-4
3. They were given a greater responsibility. vs 23, Luke 24:44-48 a). We as Christians must forgive sins according to the terms of the gospel. Romans 1:16
b). We as disciples can not forgive sins independently of the terms of the gospel. Romans 10:1-3
IV. THE CONVERSION OF THOMAS: VS 24-29
A. These were the unbeliefs of Thomas. vs 24-25
1. Thomas said I must see the Lord.
2. Thomas revealed I feel the Lord's scars.
3. Thomas exclaimed: "I will not believe."
B. These were the privileges of Thomas. vs 26-29 1. Thomas saw the Lord.
2. Thomas felt of the Lord's scares.
3. Thomas exclaimed: "My Lord and my God."
V. THE PURPOSE OF MIRACLES: VS 30-31 A. This was the scope of miracles. v 30 (All of the miracles which Jesus did are not recorded.)
B. This was the revealing of miracles. v 31 ("These are written.") Heb. 2:1-4
C. The evidence of miracles. v 31 ("Ye might believe.")
CHAPTER 21

I. THE RESURRECTED CHRIST APPEARS UNTO SEVEN OF HIS DISCIPLES: VS 1-14

A. This was the place of His appearance. vs 1-2 ("Jesus shewed himself again to his disciples at the sea of Tiberias)
B. This was the manner of His appearance. vs 3-4 ("The disciples knew not that it was Jesus.")
C. This was the awareness of His appearance. vs 5-9 1. They caught a multitude of fishes.
2. Peter was ashamed of himself.
D. This was the acknowledgement of His appearance. vs 10-14 ("None of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? Knowing that it was the Lord.")
II. THE REBUKING OF PETER: VS 15-19 A. These were the three fold rebuke for Peter. vs 15-17 1. Our Lord asked, "Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these?"
2. Our Lord asked, "Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me?"
3. Our Lord asked, "Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me?"
B. These were the three answers of Peter. 1. Peter said, "Lord thou knowest that I love thee."
2. Peter said, "Lord thou knowest that I love thee."
3. Peter said, "Lord thou knowest that I love thee."
C. These were the three demands of Peter. 1. Our Lord said, "Peter, feed my lambs."
2. Our Lord said, "Peter, feed my sheep."
3. Our Lord said, "Peter, feed my sheep."
D. This was the prophecy of Peter's death. vs 18-19 (Peter would be crucified.) 2 Peter 1:14
III. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JOHN AND CHRIST: VS 20-25 A. This was the bond of that relationship. v 20 (Love is the bond that keeps all relationship together.) 1 Cor. 13:4-8
B. This was the reason for that relationship vs 21-23 (Each person is responsible unto the Lord.) 2 Cor. 5:10
C. These are the proofs of that relationship. v 24 1. John testified of these things. 1 John 1:1-4
2. John wrote of these things. Rev. 1:1-2
D. This was the joy of that relationship. v 25 1. Books can not explain the glorious works of God.
2. This joy comes from serving God. Matt. 4:10
